As a leader, we ensure that our team shows creativity in their work. But sometimes enabling a team to work creatively is a challenge for most of the leaders including project managers. Here are three common misconceptions that might be getting in the way — and how to avoid them.

Productivity Misconception

Most of us equate innovation with decision-making speed. We have to realize that the best ideas require long establishment periods. Pushing the team to come to a fast conclusion will always block them to come up with something creative, permanent, or a long-term solution.

Intelligence Misconception

Pay close attention to how new ideas are shared and discussed on your team. Ensure that cognitive-based things are running within your team as it is a prerequisite to produce something creative. Let’s do not become your intelligence and all the exposure you got an ego for your team. Approach them with an open mind to acknowledge what is useful and what requires improvements.

Brainstorming Misconception

Group brainstorming is successful but let’s have a nominal brainstorming (where an individual thinks on their own before sharing ideas) culture for creative tasks. You can start your team brainstorms with a few minutes of silence for people to ideate independently before returning to the group as a whole.

These were the quick three areas to consider if you are a leader facing a challenge in team creativity. I hope it will help you.
